Is there really such a thing as unconditional love?

Think about it, we only care for people as far as our connection towards them... We love our children because they're our children, our friends because they're our friends, our favorite _________ because it's/he's/she's our favorite ________. So there has to be a reason for each feeling of love we have correct?
